Unilearno policy

Academic Integrity Policy

Unilearno is built on one principle: “Don’t do it for me. Help me do it better.” This Academic Integrity Policy sets out what guided learning on Unilearno includes, what it never includes, how AI may be used, and what happens if the rules are broken.

Applies to: Learners, parents and guardians, and Academic Experts

In short

  • Academic Experts help you understand, practise and improve. They never write, complete or sit assessed work for you.
  • Everything you submit to your institution must be your own work, prepared by you.
  • Your institution’s rules on integrity, collaboration and AI always come first.
  • Requests for contract cheating are refused, recorded and may lead to account suspension without refund.
  • We comply with laws that make it an offence to provide or advertise contract cheating services, including in Australia and England.

Why academic integrity matters

Academic integrity means acting honestly, fairly and responsibly in learning, teaching and research. It protects the value of your qualification, the trust your institution places in you, and your own growth. When you understand something yourself, you can use it again in the next assessment, the next course and your career.

Unilearno exists to help learners build real capability. Guided support from an expert is a legitimate and valuable part of learning, provided the work you are assessed on remains your own.

Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to everyone who uses Unilearno:

  • learners, at every level from school to research and professional learning;
  • parents and guardians who book or supervise sessions for learners under 18;
  • Academic Experts (mentors), who must also follow the Mentor Code of Conduct;
  • our staff and partners, including anyone who creates learning resources for the Platform.

It applies to sessions, messages, shared files, resources, reviews and any other activity on the Platform. Learners also agree to the Student Code of Ethical Use.

Our principles

  1. Learners own their work. Thinking, writing, calculations, code and decisions in assessed work must be the learner’s own.
  2. Experts guide, they don’t substitute. Academic Experts explain, question, model with different examples, give feedback and help learners plan, but they never produce work for submission.
  3. Institutional rules come first. Where your institution’s rules are stricter than ours, follow your institution’s rules.
  4. Transparency. Learners should be able to describe honestly the support they received if their institution asks.
  5. Responsible technology. AI and other tools support thinking and learning; they never replace it.

What sessions can and cannot include

Academic Experts can

  • Explain concepts, theories, methods and techniques until you understand them
  • Work through different example problems and practice questions
  • Help you understand an assessment brief, marking criteria and what is being asked
  • Help you plan your approach, structure your ideas and manage your time
  • Ask questions that help you think critically and develop your own argument
  • Give feedback on a short sample of your writing to explain general issues (such as structure, clarity or referencing style) so you can improve it yourself
  • Teach research skills: finding sources, evaluating evidence, choosing a methodology and analysing data
  • Help you prepare for exams with revision plans, practice papers and exam technique
  • Explain your institution’s referencing style and how to avoid plagiarism

Academic Experts cannot

  • Write, rewrite or complete any assignment, essay, report, dissertation, thesis chapter, code or lab report for submission
  • Solve assessed questions, problem sets, take-home exams or quizzes for you
  • Sit, or help during, any exam, test or quiz, including online and timed assessments
  • Edit your work so heavily that it is no longer substantially yours
  • Provide “model answers” to the specific questions in your current assessment
  • Log in to your institution’s systems or submit work on your behalf
  • Paraphrase or rewrite text to avoid detection by plagiarism or AI-detection tools
  • Fabricate data, results, sources or references

If you are unsure whether a request is allowed, ask your Academic Expert or our team before the session. If in doubt, the answer is to focus on understanding, practising with different examples, and doing the assessed work yourself.

Assessments and live exams

Sessions must not take place while you are completing a timed or live assessment, quiz or exam. If an Academic Expert realises that a session request relates to a live assessment, they will end the session and report it. We may also refuse or cancel a Booking if a requirement appears to describe assessed work that the learner wants completed for them.

Experts may help with assessment preparation, for example by explaining the topic, the marking criteria and how to plan, but you must complete the assessment yourself, following your institution’s rules about permitted help.

Using AI responsibly

Generative AI can support learning, for example by explaining a concept another way or generating practice questions. It can also undermine learning if it does the thinking for you. On Unilearno:

  • follow your institution’s and course’s rules on AI first. Some assessments forbid AI entirely; others allow specific uses with acknowledgement;
  • use AI to understand, practise and check, not to produce work you submit as your own;
  • acknowledge AI use where your institution requires it, describing what you used and how;
  • verify everything: AI tools can produce errors and invented references;
  • never use AI to disguise or rewrite someone else’s work to avoid plagiarism or AI detection.

Academic Experts may show how to use AI responsibly as a learning tool, but must not use AI to produce assessed work for learners, or put learners’ work into AI tools without their consent.

Our legal obligations

Several countries have laws against contract cheating. For example:

  • in Australia, the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 makes it an offence to provide or advertise academic cheating services to students of Australian higher education providers;
  • in England, the Skills and Post-16 Education Act 2022 makes it an offence to provide or advertise contract cheating services to students aged 16 and over;
  • other jurisdictions, such as Ireland and New Zealand, have similar laws.

Unilearno is designed to comply with these laws. We do not provide, arrange or advertise services that complete assessed work for learners, and we act on reports of misuse. We may cooperate with regulators, law enforcement and, where lawful and appropriate, institutions investigating serious academic misconduct.

How we uphold integrity

  • Expert vetting and training: Academic Experts are verified and agree to this policy and the Mentor Code of Conduct before they can accept sessions.
  • Requirement review: we review learner requirements, and may decline requests that describe completing assessed work.
  • Platform rules: messages, files and payments stay on the Platform, so sessions can be reviewed if a concern is raised.
  • Monitoring: we may use automated tools and manual review to detect possible integrity breaches, such as requests to complete assessments. See our Privacy Policy.
  • Clear language: we describe our services honestly and never promise grades or completed work.

Reporting a concern

If you see something on Unilearno that may breach this policy, report it to [email protected] with the subject “Integrity concern”. You can report anonymously, although we may not be able to update you on the outcome. Academic Experts must report integrity concerns within 24 hours.

We take every report seriously, investigate fairly, and protect people who report in good faith from retaliation.

What happens if this policy is broken

Depending on the seriousness and whether it has happened before, we may:

SituationPossible action
A learner asks for help that crosses the line, then accepts the expert’s explanationGuidance and a reminder of this policy
A learner repeatedly or deliberately asks for assessed work to be completedBooking cancelled without refund, warning, and suspension or closure of the account
An Academic Expert completes, or offers to complete, assessed workImmediate suspension, withholding of payment for the session, removal from the network and, where required, reporting to authorities
Anyone advertises or arranges cheating services through the PlatformAccount closure and reporting to the relevant authorities

Where a breach is confirmed, we may withhold refunds and payouts for the sessions concerned. We will give the person an opportunity to explain before making a final decision, unless urgent action is needed to stop harm.
